From the recording cOnTAinMEnt 2020

By June 2020, not being able to hang out with my friends anymore was probably the worst thing. I daydreamed about a place I stopped for dinner one evening while out of town working. It’s this tiny area across the river from NYC in NJ that is defined at the edges by railroad tracks (the Ironbound). It was like stepping back to a simpler time. People were in no rush. They set around and talked outside tiny shops all along the streets. Music played.

Lyrics

The Ironbound

Going down to the corner
To hang with my friends
Got my black vest on
Got a pocket full of gin

Got a white tux shirt
All buttoned down tight
Got on alligator boots
Silver buckles done right

Going to sit out on the corner
Outside Camilo’s place
Maybe play a game of chess
With a suit or that black dress

==Chorus
It’s Been this way
For a thousand years
Friends and laughter
Warm Wine and beer
Together we smile
Together we cheer
We’ll all be coming back
For the rest of our years

Going down
To the corner
Going down
To see my friends
Going down
To the corner
Where all my friends
My friends will be

I’m running late again
On Sunday we play cards
They all just wink and smile
I'm going to be dealing for a while

Oh, the men like to play
And the women like to bet
It’s all just playful banter
Shakespeare’s stage is set

Oh, the streets will fill up slowly
And the skies will start to fade
Short shadows will grow longer
We’ll be so glad we stayed

Friends and strangers swaying
Guitars will serenade
They’ll be a lot of dancing
And love being made

==Chorus

Going down to the corner
To see my friends
Got a smile on my face
Got a pocketful of gin

Going down to the corner
To see my friends
Got a smile on my face
Let’s do this again

===Outro

Going down
For a 1000 years
Going down
Friends and laughter
Going down
Warm wine and beer
Going down
To see my friends
Going down
To see my friends
